Rob Reiner.

Having the opportunity to meet Rob and Michele Reiner and interview Rob in their home in December 2022 was a highlight of our project and a bucket list item for both of us as improvisers and humans.

They were generous and welcoming hosts. Rob spoke in depth of his work with The Committee, his use of improvisation as a filmmaker, the turbulence of the 1960s, and so much more. In the months since the interview Rob was a friend to the project, providing feedback and answering questions as we had them.

Much of The Committee’s resonance for us lies in their activism and engagement with the world around them. Onstage, they pointed to the hypocrisies of America, and were active members of the movement against the forces of darkness. They walked the walk.

In their life and work, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner walked the walk exceptionally well. In this, they set a high bar for us all.

RIP.

Rob Reiner & Larry Bishop at The Hungry i.

In the late sixties Rob Reiner and Larry Bishop spearheaded an improv group in Los Angeles called The Session, which included Richard Dreyfuss and others. Reiner and Bishop formed a duo out of that group and went on tour. Here they are doing press for a show at The Hungry i, courtesy of the San Francisco Bay Area Television Archive. Within a year, Reiner would find himself onstage at The Committee. Reiner provided more background about this time in his 2011 interview with A.V. Club which you can find here.
